USB cable to charge modern mobile phone (USB-C) via older
battery power pack
What to take a friend in hospital whose modern smart phone
nattery is running low; so he can re-charge a USB power pack
unattended near a hospital power socket, & keep his mobile
with him for use & security.

Look at 3 USB types: A, C, and mini-A; ignore the rest (eg B for
print scan). The 3 USB types:
- Modern mobiles & chargers all now have USB Type-C
sockets, See top row, right end. Notice it's rounded both
ends He probably just has a cable with USB Type-C plug each
end.
- Older chargers have USB Type-A sockets
- Older phones have USB Type-Mini-A, See Middle row left.
Notice at each end, the top corners are square, bottom
corners are sloped. They normally use a cable with 1 plug
USB Type-A, & 1 plug USB Type-Mini-A
Older Battery power packs have sockets:
- 1 x power input to charge itself: USB Type-Mini-A and
- 2 x power output to charge phones: USB Type-A
What to take:
- Battery pack
- Charger (mains adapter 230V to 5V)) with USB Type-A socket
- Cable with USB Type-A plug to USB Type-Mini-A plug (to charge battery from mains adapter),
- Cable with USB Type-A plug to USB Type-C plug (to charge mobile phone from battery),
(If you cant find a USB Type-A plug to USB Type-C plug: Take eg a USB
hub with 1 USB Type-A plug and 1 USB Type-C socket [+ 3 USB Type A blue
sockets.])
